Manual Physical Therapy
Treatement from a Physical Therapist
Manual Physical Therapy is treatment, which involves laying on of the hands by the Physical Therapist and Physical Therapy Assistant. As apprehensive as some patients initially are when they first arrive to Physical Therapy with a sore and often post-surgical body part, they soon look forward to the manual therapy portion of the physical therapy treatment.
Manual Therapy is a general term describing "hands-on" care to a patient. This type of care is provided in numerous forms to modify pain, reduce inflammation, increase range of motion, enhance strength, promote relaxation, and improve circulation. Cumulatively, these gains should progressively optimize function. Articular mobilization, passive stretching, massage, therapeutic exercise, effort substitution, and manual traction are some of the types of manual procedures rendered in physical therapy. (Specific names, not mentioned here, are often associated with these manual techniques)
Our Physical Therapists are continuously taking post-graduate courses to refine their manual and evaluation techniques in order to more precisely address patient pathologies.
